The first step out of isolation on the path to further education is often a visit to a Neighbourhood House for a kids’ playgroup or to do something like a cooking class. This can lead to a return to employment or an active participation in community life. Building community and valuing diversity in your neighbourhood is what neighbourhood houses do best. From May 9-14 there will be a program of free community activities to show exactly HOW they do it.
The principles of the Neighbourhood House and Learning Centre Sector are:
-Community ownership
-Community participation
-Empowerment
-Access and equity
-Life long learning
-Inclusion
-Networking
-Advocacy
-Self help
-Social action
There are brooches, balloons, posters and tee shirts on sale to help the Sector celebrate. For info phone 03 9654 1104 or email anhlc@anhlc.asn.au
Email Clare at ANHLC (clare@anhlc.asn.au) to let her know how your House or Centre is celebrating in 2005. All events will be publicised in the May ANHLC newsletter.
