Australia’s reputation as daring, thrill seeking, adventurous holidaymakers was recently confirmed by a major international survey,the ‘MasterIndex of Travel’ conducted by MasterCard International. It found:
1)41% prefer destinations offering adventure and untamed encounters with nature;
2)33% travel to learn more about the history and cultures of other people;
3)our Asia/Pacific neighbours rank sport and physical activity 4th after sightseeing, rest, relaxation and entertainment;
4)only holidaymakers from Hong Kong and Thailand join Australians in stating a preference for adventure;
5)Kiwis show a quieter side, preferring to holiday with friends and family;
6)travellers from China, Taiwan and Malaysia favour the comfort of beach resorts;
7)Indonesians, Filipinos and Singaporeans like man-made attractions: shopping, entertainment centres, theme parks.
The MasterIndex of Travel is released twice a year, encompassing a 6-month forecast of outbound travel for 12 markets (Australia, China, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Japan, Korea, Malaysia, New Zealand, the Philippines, Singapore, Taiwan & Thailand) and a survey of business and personal travel trends among the urban middle class across the region.
