A northern Victorian PWF reader, impressed by the Echuca Neighbourhood House (NH) Term 3 Guide, has passed it on. When you read what Echuca offers – similar to most Houses responding to their community’s needs – it is hard to see why government doesn’t “get” what this sector does and support it a bit more!
Echuca NH runs courses Monday & Thursday 9am – 4.30pm; Wednesday 9am – 2pm; every Tuesday morning there’s a walking group getting fit and ending up with a cuppa at the Beechworth Bakery and if you’re not into sport, on Saturdays 11am – 11pm, there’s a Gaming Group playing all sorts of Board and Card Games.
The House has a “Shed” where a painting group meets and they are looking to start up a woodworking/restoring/maintenance group. There is a Careers Info Centre and advice on Back to Work skills and Small Business Skills. Activities include:
-Creative writing
-Volunteer training: improve skills for job prospects, enhance self esteem, or just enjoy some good company
-Fitness
-Rural Women’s Support & Discussion Group
-Computer classes for beginners
-Felt making
-Games/veggie gardening & lunch on Mondays
-Yoga
-Playgroup
-Support for older people with depression
-Collectibles evaluation day
-Computers for confident users
-Art classes
-Walking group
-After school classes.
