Victoria’s backpacker operators are focussing on increasing the length of stay after the Games. The website backpackvictoria.com will be the main call-to-action in summer and autumn 2006 and will be updated with all relevant info for backpacker travel.
The marketing campaign will run from late October 2005 till March 2006. Tourism Vic is encouraging backpacker operators to promote the Games and a summer/autumn of fun in Vic in 2006.
Games posters and flyers are available by contacting Penny Olive at Tourism Vic on penny.olive@tourism.vic.gov.au or 03 9653 9736.
Operators and regions/towns are being encouraged to be creative and encourage backpackers to stay longer by running Games related parties or special activities. Let Penny know the details!
The Backpackers Asociation (BOAV) has registered with Greening Australia’s regional tree-planting project. Peter McMahon (0418 336 173) is coordinating this regional project and needs a gang of environmentally conscious backpackers to get out to country Vic to get their hands dirty!
The Games Reference Group is considering ways to increase the length of stay ‘post Games’ – the possibility of holding a huge party is being investigated. Send any ideas to Penny Olive for discussion at the Reference Group’s monthly meetings.
