In Warragul, Gippsland, a very small group – part of the ‘Women who Mean Business Project’ some time ago started a series of workshops making mosaic tiles to be placed along Warragul’s 1.5 km Linear Park Trail.

After the low key start, all artists in the Baw Baw Shire were called on to paint a bollard to further enhance the trail, which is now to be called the Arts Discovery Trail. Over fifty artists – several mothers and daughters, Koories , disabled groups and even several men – have painted a bollard in their own unique style.

The shire has been very supportive, both financially and in-kind, taking up beautifying and lighting the trail which is used regularly by walkers, joggers, families etc.

The group is so enthusiastic that when the three year funded Women who Mean Business Project finishes, they intend planning more projects and seeking their our own funding for… a sculpture garden, a mosaic compass, a huge mural on an old tin shed already in the park, a wetlands area, perhaps with a bird hide, a seat project, totem poles and an indigenous garden. The shire has helped them do a three year strategic plan and will place their projects in their own budget.
