Poor road signs can be frustrating for tourists on a driving holiday, and it is a significant issue for tourism businesses right around Australia, particularly in regional areas. There can be a lot of confusion and emotion aroused over signing guidelines – and delays – when dealing with the bureaucratic processes involved in the seemingly simple act of erecting a sign!
In Tourism Victoria’s March Newsletter there is a request for the tourism industry to get involved in a review of signage by VicRoads and Tourism Vic: Tourist Signing Guidelines – Guidelines for Tourist and Services Signing on Roads in Victoria.
To make sure the new guidelines are relevant to industry, visitors and the wider community people are being invited to get involved and give their views on the following:
1)Preventing the proliferation of individual signing but continue to provide effective directional info;
2)The roles and responsibilities of the various groups and organisations have in relation to signing;
3)Enforcement/compliance issues.
There is an online questionnaire which can be used as a basis for comments at www.tourismvictoria.com.au/signs . You can also add whatever other comments you like!
Victorians can either respond to the online questionnaire or send comments to Stuart Toplis, Industry Development Consultant, Tourism Victoria, GPO Box 2219T, Melbourne, Vic 3001, or email stuart.toplis@tourismvictoria.vic.gov.au no later than Wednesday 26 April 2006.
