Were there tears in your eyes too as you watched those incredible guys walk free from the mine?

The emotional rollercoaster will no doubt go on for some time with the funeral of Larry Knight today. Some amazing aspects of the rescue are now coming out:

  • There was a lone rescue attempt by a miner who got to within 3 metres of Todd and Brant more than a week ago – in the area where Larry Knight died – but it was deemed too dangerous to continue;
  • Todd and Brant’s courage drove the marathon rescue effort “nobody dared to flag or complain” said the paramedics;
  • After the men had walked free – on the Sunrise brekky show – I watched the head of the Tasmanian Minerals Council actually praise the behaviour of the media – with the exception of a few ‘outriders asking ‘outrageous’ questions!

After fourteen days today will be both incredibly sad and ecstatically jubilant.
