2 way satellite broadband via Wi-Fi
The Farmers’ Info newsletter tells us there is now access to broadband internet using Wi-Fi compatible wireless technology from premises previously not served, provided by My WiSP.
This Internet Service Provider is a registered Broadband Connect Provider. They use a Department of Communications, IT and the Arts (DCITA) subsidy that helps install networks in locations where wired networks can’t go.
My WiSP currently operates mainly in regional Australia and the Gold Coast but is building a metropolitan area network. As a registered Telecommunications Carrier, that uses local businesses as agents for internet access, they say to contact them about bringing broadband to your region and they will work with you to make it happen.
What exactly do they do?
My WiSP offers a 2 way satellite service through the iPSTAR satellite. Broadband via satellite has always suffered from high cost compared with other systems available but iPSTAR has developed a technology to increase system capacity and efficiency so service costs are lower than conventional satellite costs.
IPSTAR is a satellite system designed for high speed 2-way broadband communication and fully supports normal internet connection and any internet protocol (IP) applications.
Important
2-way satellite technologies allow customers to get an internet connection that is not related or connected to their phone lines, or their location in Australia. This is very important as there has always been and still are problems in regional areas with bad lines impeding good internet connections. 2 way satellite is directly from your dish to the sky and back again, bypassing phone lines and these potential line disruptions altogether.
Another technological benefit of 2 way satellite is that it is “always on”. This means no dialing or waiting – when you want to connect to the internet you are always on, just sit down and begin to surf. 2 way satellite customers are able to access the internet at very high speed, subject to the class of service chosen. 2 way satellite services available range from 256 Kilobits per second (kbps) up to 1mbps, or higher for individual cases. This is at least 5 times and up to 20 times faster than dialup.
iPSTAR’s 2 way satellite provides a nationwide internet coverage with uniform access and quality. Integrated voice, data and video communications are possible anywhere with 2 way satellite, regardless of the terrestrial line speed or coverage limitation, and congestion can be bypassed.
Subject to eligibility, My WiSP through the Federal Governments $898 million Broadband Connect Scheme, can offer a fully subsidized 2 way satellite service, resulting in customers being able to receive a broadband service at nothing more than their monthly subscription.
