Frank’s letter
Hi all
I/we would welcome your support – especially as a regular donor.
“Reconciliation is Whitefella business” according to us and we mean it. It is the dominant culture that has destroyed, raped and pillaged everything about this continent and the Indigenous people who have lived here for over 60,000 years. A very bad effort in just 220 years or so. Indigenous people have been telling us what they want for all of that 220 years. It is time we started listening and responding accordingly. It is us, the 98% of the population who are not Indigenous (or rather a significant minority of the 98%), who must change the oppression built into the system. The 2% cannot shift the weight without our assistance.
ANTaR Vic is a long way from funded, yet we are effective in supporting Indigenous aspiration, campaigns re policy and activities that help build and sustain Indigenous community. We rely on donations, Regular Donors and grants, mostly from philanthropics, because we do not have DGR status (tax exemption for donations) and, if at all, very carefully accepted grants via government programs.
$30 a month will make a huge difference if enough people donated that much – we need around 600 to make the organisation really sustainable and able to do major work (roughly a glass of wine a week). Half that number will keep us afloat and at least present – in the game! If even one dollar was given to us from each bridge-walker we’d be drowning in money! Where have you all gone?
Assist if you can – direct to the ANTaR Vic office, Brotherhood of St Lawrence, 67 Brunswick St, Fitzroy.
Thanks
Frank
The idea of a dollar from each bridgewalker – or virtual bridgewalker – is brilliant…. collection is a the obvious sticking point….could it be done at a Post Office, Bank, Supermarket? Any ideas out there?
