The Restaurant and Caterers Association want regional small businesses to be allowed to tax deduct up to 1 per cent of their turnover (up to a maximum of $25,000) as a corporate dining expense.
Tasmanian restaurateur, Geoff Copping told the ABC that the move would “bring around about 10 to 15 per cent more equity back into region areas,” and help regional restaurants survive in off peak seasons.
Sounds like a reasonable idea.
His idea also has the backing of The Australian Hotels Association and a spokesman for the Federal Small Business Minister told the ABC that the Government will consider the plan in the next few months.
Our bet it will become policy soon before this year’s federal election.
