A national conference in Bendigo, Victoria, 16-18 September 2007, will outline the growth ahead for the renewable energy sector. Renewable Energy and Regional Australia – who aim to create local economic development opportunities – will identify emerging business opportunities in regional Australia as interest in generating power and transport from non-fossil fuels increases.
The conference, at Bendigo’s View Street performing arts centre, The Capital, will outline:
- The latest in wind, waste wood, hydro, solar and geothermal and biofuel developments
- Presentations by renewable energy sector companies including a solar power generator with a 150megawatt plant under construction and plans for up to another 10 around Australia, a biodiesel plant that will produce 60 million litres of biofuel annually from tallow, waste and canola oils, a community-owned windfarm that’s planning to raise funds by selling shares in the co-operative and a farmer co-operative with interest in building a bioenergy plant.

The conference will also hear from some of the sector’s top advocates including the Business Council for Sustainable Energy and the Australian Wind Energy Association as well as successful community campaigns including Bega’s Energy for Eternity and Castlemaine’s sustainability group.
