Adam Robinson, Streetsmart CEO and marketing man extraordinaire is doing a great job ‘growing’ the Streetsmart project.
It’s a restaurant fund-raising initiative for the homeless, a campaign for restaurateurs with a social conscience. The campaign, established here in 2003, started in the UK. It involves participating restaurants over the period of the campaign proposing to customers that they add a $2 donation be the table’s bill.
100 per cent of all donations is distributed in the form of grants. To date over $250,000 has been raised and distributed. Streetsmart supports critical services, social inclusion, empowerment and sustainable change for the homeless.
How do donations change lives? Find out in these recent articles:
* SecondBite — August 07 A generous fuel grant allowed nutritious food – 200,000 meals this year -to be collected and distributed to where it was needed.
* Iramoo Youth Refuge — April 07
* North East Support & Action for Youth Inc (NESAY) — April 07
* PILCH/Victorian Association for the Care and Resettlement of Offenders — April 07
* StreetSocceroos — April 07.
Adam has been busy, busy on all this for the past three months, and this year Streetsmart again has the support of Citysearch, MX, Goldman Sachs JBWere, Waterways and a lot of other sponsors who together make StreetSmart happen.
Bendigo Bank has now joined the team and will be helping, through selected branches, to help build StreetSmart within local communities and increase our impact on the lives of the homeless.
Streetsmart will be up and running in Queensland and ACT this year and expanding their reach in Victoria and NSW. Adam says they have a number of brilliant volunteers coordinating and recruiting restaurants across these states and restaurants are getting on board. It’s a great start and an example of people coming together to make things happen. He can see that we will have some healthy inter State competition this year.
Naming a few who got on board early… Longrain, Coast, Toko, Bistro Moncur and Alchemy 731 in Sydney and Il Solito Posto, Cafe Fidama, Harveys, Ezard, Sails on the Bay, Syracuse and Mini in Melbourne… and look out for Streetsmart in Geelong, Newcastle and Orange this year.
Adam is happy to talk to anyone who is interested in these opportunities. Hours are to suit. Call on 03 9836 1887 if you’d like to know more.
Adam says a big thanks to all for being friends of StreetSmart – YOU make it happen!
