Have you discovered Fregie Sacks? Most people agree the less plastic bags used the better and Fregie Sacks are an alternative to all those little plastic bags we put into our green bags which we ALWAYS remember…(we-e-ell mostly remember)!

Some Fregie Sack Details

• It is a nylon netting bag, 30cm x 40cm, made in a range of colours and finished with a polypropylene drawstring
• It has a lifespan of 1-2 years and with appropriate usage will probably last for much longer
• It can easily hold 3-4 kg of produce without damage
• It softens with use
• It can be handwashed or machined washed in a stocking bag to prevent snagging

The Fregie Sack is available as a single item or in pre-packaged sets of five in one of six colours. You can also design your own range and choose any combination of the following colours, including black.

• CLASSIC – dark blue, indigo, white, red, dark green or aqua
• RAINBOW – bright orange, gold, royal blue, indigo, red, dark green
• PASTELS – lemon, pale pink, lilac, aqua and white

Background

Two Victorian girls, Rebecca Sacco and Alex Hughes, met through their East Brunswick Parent’s Group after the birth of their daughters. Both were using cloth nappies, and realised they shared the same desire for a more sustainable world.

Rebecca was motivated to make a few bags for her own personal use as a means of replacing plastic bags in her family’s everyday grocery shopping. She made more as Christmas gifts and the TwoGirls partnership was born in the 2006-07 financial year.

Together they revised the design, established a name and logo and packaged them up into sets of 5 for sale.

They started trading through the Internet as a means of testing the market and gaining consumer feedback. The response was overwhelmingly positive!
