Pastor Liz Howland is currently in the Bourke district of North Western NSW and wants to confirm the great need for tradespeople in this region.
Our suggested project – connecting Grey Nomads with trade skills to work in ‘real’ Aussie outback communities – should be of great benefit to future travellers as this sort of travel is clearly going to involve enormous fuel bills.
Liz says:
“I am currently working on a flyer which would go out to the properties on the mail runs informing them of what we have in mind and the website to contact. www.pigswillfly.com.au, so I feel this will have a huge response. This service is very worthwhile, the drought continues to bite in this region, Anything we can do to make city people more aware of the hardships of the bush and the needs is so valuable. These people are the backbone of our nation, our food producers and I believe due great respect.”
PWF stats show our Grey Nomad articles have been read by a significant number of people. If you’re interested, do let us know – email editor@pigswillfly.wpengine.com – and we’ll continue to publish project updates through the website and our fortnightly PWF Bulletin headlines.

I think its a great idea to help match people with trade / other practical skills and wanting to travel with those ‘in the bush’ needing skills / work done …
PwF would need to make clear its facilitates contact, does not guarantee outcomes … to avoid any potential liability issues
Users make own enquiries and act with due caution …
A group is forming to establish a series of ecovillage communities around Australia to provide a base and network for environmentally aware volunteers.
Assuming there will be an increase in the number of people escaping suburbia during their retirement, we plan to fulfill a growing problem which is the scarcity of affordable caravan parks. More than 100 caravan parks have been closed for redevelopment. We intend leasing or purchasing an existing park in order to get started quickly and legally.
The members may hold one only share in the company that owns the land and buildings and members contribute $100 per week each as rent. Most locations will be as sustainable in food where possible. Also various member owned small enterprises will be encouraged and supported financially. Residents are expected to take part in activities that benefit the community for a couple of hours a day doing something they are passionate about.

Great idea – thanks for this contact John.
Slightly different idea to John’s below:
NEW FREE CAMP SITE & TRAVEL BASE OR RETREAT FOR GREY NOMADS
700 acres of natural bushland with permanent billabongs & lots of cypress pine at Chinchilla Qld.
Suitable for self contained vehicles only as there are no facilities at present, but tank water is available & abundant firewood. Satellite broadband & mobile telephone coverage on site & a small solar power set-up is used to run the camp which is 15klms from town.
Chinchilla is abuzz with coal-seam gas & coal mine developments which are creating lots of business opportunities & employment.
It is a nice quiet place with lots of wildlife & potential to establish a Grey Nomad retreat or base.
Owner is a Grey Nomad who has retired & dropped out of the city ratrace & uses the property as a base from which to travel. You are welcome to join the drop-out for as long as you like, & for those who have taken the plunge & sold up their real estate, it may be a place of permanent retreat from your travelling adventures. Solo travellers especially welcome.
There is an opportunity to join in the development of the property for this purpose if anyone is interested. (A few red grape vines wouldn’t go astray or a vegie patch!!)
