Fair Trade Latte Art Challenge

The FIRST EVER Fair Trade Latte Art Challenge to be held for the first time anywhere in the world. Set up in Melbourne’s Central Station, elite baristas in town for the Australian Barista Championships will compete using Fair Trade Certified coffee to be crowned the first Fair Trade Champion. Passers-by will get the chance to try the coffee and taste the great taste Fair Trade coffee can produce. Each Barista will have no more than 5 minutes to create 1 cappuccino, 1 café latte, 1 café macchiato, and 1 freestyle beverage chosen by the Barista. Join a range of exclusive speakers in an informal afternoon discussion about the meaning of Fair Trade as you sample a delicious range of beautiful Fair Trade teas, coffees and chocolates, which is all part of the Fortnight’s Coffee Break celebrations run in conjunction with Oxfam Australia. The topic of the Forum will explore what Fair Trade represents to Australians, and will be chaired by the Coordinator of the Melbourne Fair Trade Fortnight, Miss Victoria Schladetsch, and joined by some of Melbourne’s most prominent Fair Trade businesspeople and experts.

The Fair Trade Association is extending an invitation to Melbourne’s Year 9, 10 and 11 high school students to join us on the 16th of May for an educational, fun-filled interactive Fair Trade Education Day.
Master Weaver and silk spinner from Laos will demonstrate the art of weaving and production of silk cloth. Learn about organic silk farming and how Fair Trade is helping villages in Laos to become sustainable. You will also get a chance to practice at the loom and spin the silk.
Participate in a Barista course run by Coffex Coffee. Learn to make the best espresso in Melbourne and find out more about the difference between standard coffee and Fair Trade coffee. Find out how Fairtrade soccer balls are made with Etiko, and get your design skills happening by designing a soccer ball, or a sports T-Shirt for a chance to win a prize and much, much more…
