It’s being reported that Norway’s Think Global will produce an electric car for the masses – the Think City – probably in Southern California, and begin selling in late 2009.
Battery-powered, this car will be able to travel up to 110 miles on a single charge, with a top speed of about 65 mph. It will be priced below $25,000.
US venture capital will fund Think City’s entry into the US market – in March, General Electric invested $4 million in Think Global.
Ford was the longtime owner of Think but sold it in 2003 to Norwegian investors who began selling cars in Norway this year, with sales in Sweden, Denmark and Britain expected soon. Annual production capacity in Europe is said to be 10,000 vehicles.
The Think City is a two-seater that can be fitted with two additional seats for children. It has a mostly plastic exterior and is 95% recyclable. They say ‘Women want to buy it immediately’!
A little less daunting than a DIY effort!
