2012 as well as being the UN International Year of Cooperatives is also the UN International Year of Sustainable Energy for All. In light of this, the Cooperatives Research Group of the University of Sydney is holding a Symposium – Cooperatives, Energy and Sustainability.
This symposium will explore the role that cooperatives can play in energy generation and in ensuring sustainability.
The keynote speaker is Pierangelo Mori, Professor of Economics at the University of Florence and a leading expert on power co-operatives.
There will be a number of issues discussed including current technology and the applicability of the cooperative model to energy generation, particularly at a community level.
Presentations will include one on Australia’s first energy sector cooperatives (Hepburn Wind) and also a view from the non-co-operative energy private sector.
