Would someone like to spend some time in Dampier, in WA’s Pilbara region – Red Dog territory? PWF has just received the following letter from a very good-hearted semi-retired school teacher, Julie McGowan. She writes:
Hi
My name is Julie McGowan, I am a 61 year old semi-retired school teacher.
I responded to a father of 4 children who placed an adv on Karratha Buy and Sell. Brett, was asking for help to look after his children while he worked full time.
He is doing it tough on his own at this present time. The children are aged 4,5,9 and 10 years plus their 11 month old miniature staffy dog. They drove across from NSW , 7 weeks ago, towing an old 18 foot caravan with as many possessions as could be loaded on board. And lets not forget the bird.
It is now a month since I drove up from Rockingham , south of Perth. with my caravan in tow and my boxer puppy , 6 months old in the passenger seat.
Brett is working for a trucking company here in Dampier, 12 hour days and 6 days or more a week.
He is emotionally and physically very tired and I am struggling also with the huge load and responsibility I have taken on.
I am putting it out there, that if someone would like to come to Dampier and help in any way, even for a short time, it would be very much appreciated. Food and accommodation would be provided or park up your caravan.
By help I mean, things like, assisting with getting children ready for school of a morning, hanging out a load of washing, cooking a meal, general house duties or coming on an outing to the beach or a picnic near the foreshore. Never a dull moment during an outing to the local foreshore here in Dampier with 4 children and two young energetic dogs.
Regards, Julie
