July 9, 2014A Public Service Green Paper looking for social innovation leading to new policy formulation has been released for public consultation to stimulate discussion as to the role of Co-operatives and Mutuals in delivering public services for Australians.
About The Paper
The Paper investigates:
- how to use co-operatives and mutuals to scale smaller organisations to take advantage of new social service markets
- how to use co-operatives and mutuals to deliver choice and control for service users
- how to use co-operatives and mutuals to set up transparent and democratic governance between groups
- how to use employee ownership and other forms of participatory ownership to run services devolved from Government
- how to build awareness of the role that co-operatives and mutuals already play in social service delivery

You are invited to provide feedback on the Green Paper to inform the development of recommendations to be presented in the Public Service Mutuals White Paper, to be launched in July.
Co-operatives and mutuals, government, business, educators, community and consumer groups are encouraged to be part of the consultation. Please complete the survey by COB Monday 23 July 2014.
Webinar To Assist Understanding: 10am Friday 4 July
To assist with stakeholders understanding the key concepts from the Green Paper and provide them with the opportunity to ask questions, there will be a Webinar overview at 10 am on 4 July, 2014. This will be a free 1 hour webinar delivered by Les Hems. The webinar will provide stakeholders with:
- overview of the key points of the research
- its relevance to government, not-for-profits and the co-operative and mutuals sectors
- an opportunity to seek responses to relevant questions
