The Helpmehelpyou app is ‘a helping hand within arm’s reach’- a great idea, and free. The app allows carers, parents and sick people to stay in touch. It puts out a call to friends or family for help with a single task or a list, and people check off things they can help with.
I read in a local newspaper that a Melbourne Mum, Emma Race – pregnant with her third child in four years – saw the community rallying around another Mum who was unwell.
“People were making meals, cleaning, baby-sitting, washing and doing pool pick-ups but it was hard to co-ordinate – someone had to make rosters and email people..
I thought there had to be an easier way to co-ordinate the kindness. I was also thinking how often other people helped me out and how happy I would be to help others out, if I only knew they needed help at a certain time.”
Seeing the app working well, Emma says is
“Confirmation that there is kindness and goodness in people”
during a period of bad news for some.
Well done, Emma
