Douglas Hicks is having trouble getting his thoughts/concerns through to politicians. As we all have a right to a voice, PWF is passing on what Douglas was endeavouring to communicate 24 November 2010.
Dear Sir
Re Proposed developments to the national BROADBAND network
Please consider the following points to the planning & costing issues.
The cost of the network is NOT the only long term cost which should be considered in the discussion / planning stage.
Other factors of relevance are: Reliability of fixed cable network sectors as compared to wireless sectors/connections.
My personal experience with the wireless connection system has been that it is quite erratically & spasmodically unreliable at maintaining a constant connection ( I live within 1.5km in line of sight from one Telstra tower to my south and just out of sight to a 2nd tower 1km to my west over a slight rise). I use a fixed position main frame computer with the aerial mounted on the outside of the south-west wall of the house (in a virtual uninterrupted signal line from both towers). At peak load times it is quite common to have my Telstra connection interrupted by system overload of the tower aerials or other issues within the local Telstra system.
My previous experience was with a fixed cable system. At that time I was located about 3 to 4km from that exchange near; Logan Central/Slacks Creek Qld and the connection worked perfectly 99.99% of the time and was dramatically more reliable than my current wireless set up.
Contingent health risks, (see notes at end of this letter) to users & others from radio wave interference with our health from wireless systems is another major issue which should be considered in the plan as well. The substantial cost to society, Medicare and we the individuals which wireless systems will make the spread of this problem in society dramatically worse and expand it’s development over time as more and more citizens develop health & wellbeing side effects from these wave frequencies which we have not normally been in contact with in historical reference terms.
I myself have been a victim to this problem. Please read my story toward the end of this letter together with other relevant proven scientific information on the subject.
There may be a big saving in Dollars to make some of the network wireless but when you consider the explosive potential of the above issue costs; it puts a whole new perspective on the subject. You can either spend the extra $ now & do it properly ( there seems to be an endless supply of artificial paper $ in the reserve banking system when it suits their ego’s to call on it. Just look at what the US federal reserve did 2 years ago SO GETTING THE DOLLARS IS NOT REALLY AN ISSUE)
Or you can cut corners on the costs & save money by building part of the network in wireless ( with the added advantage of big brother being able to eavesdrop on us whenever it suits. ) And then look forward to having a bigger percentage of our population developing health side effects from all the extra radio wave interference with our health. AND THEN LOOK FORWARD TO AN EVEN BIGGER BILL TO PAY FOR THE RELATED HEALTH COSTS / LOSS OF PRODUCTIVITY ETC FROM THAT.
So consider VERY CAREFULLY the side issues of radio interference with our bodies in the broadband & mobile technology installation debate. See page 2 below for expansion on this point.
Health Issues
We are already seeing people who have been high users of mobile phones developing assorted cancer and other health effects. And we are only just getting into the problem. Go down town & watch how many generation “Y” people have a phone to their ear for long periods of time.
Then go to a main hospital & ask some questions as to how much of the problem is starting to show and how much work it takes to make good & repair these people if you can. Then consider that what we are seeing to date is only the start of what long term developments will show. It will over time probably be worse than the Asbestos & asbestosis which you will all know has only had effects on a really small part of our older population but the cost’s have been well into the multi-billions. Ask yourself what percentage of our population will be within the effect field of these high frequency waves for too long & then consider what portion of them will contract health issues because of that. Remember on that time frame point we are looking at the life expectancy time of generation “Y” and everybody before & after.
For the past 15 years at least workers on high voltage power lines in Sweden have only been allowed to work with live mains for a maximum of 15 years to reduce the risk to health issues.
Next the NASSA high altitude town in the US back in the 1970’s which was the main centre for all the ground to air communications for the moon missions & after. The disease rate that developed among it’s 1000 + residents was about 100 times above rates seen in the wider US community and other societies ; and that was shown on a television documentary on the subject back in the 1990’s.
Next consider the effects of all the frequencies as described on recent TV show channel 9 free to air 8.30 pm Tuesday 23rd Nov 2010:- Richard Hammond’s “Invisible World” UV & infra red light spectrum.
My personal story on this subject is;- In Oct 2001 I was fitted with an artificial aortic heart valve ; a few days after the operation I went into fribulation ( heart beat 250 x per min & was saved by the diligence of Prince Charles Hospital System. ) That event to me was a stress reaction to the trauma of the heart operation & given a little more time settled down. The medical system there decided to fit me with an electronic device under my collar bone and wired into my heart called a De-fribulator at an approx cost of $42,000. After carrying this device around for a few years & it simply monitoring me with no need to do anything , It’s battery went to low charge level & it was decided (without asking my opinion) to change it for a new model De-fibrilator at a further cost to the system at probably $50,000 + . My body never really felt comfortable with this device and it (in retrospect turned out to be a total waste) . In 2009 I acquired a new mobile phone which I noted; FELT DECIDEDLY UNCUMFORTABLE FOR ME WHEN I PLACED IT IN MY TOP SHIRT POCKET ( where it would be sitting on the other side of my skin from the implanted De-fribulator under my collar bone) Through 2009 and particularly toward the end and into Jan 2010 my health deteriorated dramatically .. I was on sickness benefit the whole time and toward the end of 09 on a number of occasions got to the point of not caring whether I was DEAD or Alive. After frequent complaints to doctors & eventually at the specialist section of Bris PA hospital was diagnosed with bacteria growing on the implanted ends of the wires in my heart from the De-fribulator .. So then Into Hospital & on a 6 times a day Anti-biotic drip for 3 months and take out the de-fribulator near the end of all this..
A report to the US Senate Committee on ageing revealed up to Half of cardiac pacemaker implants & related devices are unnecessary- the result of overaggressive treatment and doctors not getting second opinions from others who do not have a vested interest. Page 37 { from the book by Dr. Stuart M Berger;- what your doctor did not learn in medical school. Print reference ISBN 0-86753-403-6 A BANTAM/SCHWARTZ BOOK printed 1988 }
I can personally add a lot to that subject of attitudes & opinions of doctors & specialists, that only refer patients to vested interests within their realm of influence in the medical industry and totally ignore better, cheaper, more effective ways of dealing with clients health issues that they refuse to acknowledge because the subjects are avoided in medical school.
As a further precaution to My health in October last year before being diagnosed with the bacteria problem. I have fitted around my Computer hard drive box (allowing for ventilation space) a 1.5mm thick Lead Shield to protect me from any of these foreign radio/electric waves which emanate from that source & I think that also has contributed to my wellness.
The end result for me is that I now feel better than I have health wise for the past 12 to 13 years. But the important point I wish to make out of this is that my body reacted negatively to this device and I nearly died from it, and at what would have been a total cost to the tax payers of 2 to 3 hundred K.
That makes the extra cost of hard wired broadband of approximately $1,000 to $2,000 per citizen look very cheap.
So Consider VERY CAREFULLY the side issues of radio interference with our bodies in the broadband & mobile technology installation debate.
Note ‘ A’ The health care system & installation of fancy expensive devices needs to have in place a process whereby the person’s making the decision are not influenced by the $ vested interests of whether it is needed or not .
Yours Sincerely.
Douglas Hicks

The sheer enormity of this issue is beyond the average person. How on earth can we make a judgment when we are so poorly informed? Will it be like digital TV, just presented to us as a fait accompli?
