For a ‘better bottom line’ Reusable Nappy Week, 19-25 March, is the second annual Australian event, staged by the Australian Nappy Network. It is designed to increase awareness of reusable nappy options today.
This special week started 10 years ago in the UK, coordinated by the Women’s Environmental Network (WEN). In 2007 all over Australia displays and events have been organised , with gatherings planned throughout the week to give you the chance to see a large selection of modern variations on reusable nappy options, and talk to parents who use cloth.

The calculations for disposables are:
35c per disposable nappy
6 changes per day
for 2.5 years
= $1916.25
BUT
Paul Klymenko, Research Director at Planet Ark, speaking with Richard Stubbs on the ABC asks:
“In these times of water shortages are cloth nappies better than disposable nappies? Which is more eco friendly?”
As usual it seems, in all eco-debates, it ain’t easy!

CLOTH ARE BEST! Don’t forget the resources, manufacture, packaging, marketing and transportation of the disposables. Not to mention the price for their disposal to landfill.
Also, kids come out of cloth nappies a lot quicker than disposables, freeing up parents from all that nappy changing. Therefore, if you choose washables you won’t be washing them for as long as you’d be buying and changing disposables.
