Adam Bandt will host a public forum on Wednesday 28th September at 6.30 pm to discuss alternatives to mandatory detention and offshore processing for asylum seekers.
“Behind Barbed Wire: Mandatory Detention and the Malaysian Deal” will be held at the Melbourne Multicultural Hub, 506 Elizabeth St.
Adam is asking people to join him in this conversation saying:
“The High Court has ruled that offshore processing and the Malaysian solution are illegal under Australian law.
Now the Government is scrambling to overturn the decision. They want to team up with Tony Abbott and the Liberal Party to keep mandatory detention and offshore processing. The majority of Australians want to see refugee claims assessed in Australia. here in Melbourne our values of compassion, multiculturalism and diversity mean we must oppose this move by the Government.
The Greens have consistently stood up for a fair and compassionate approach to refugees and will continue to do so.
Please join me and Senator Sarah Hanson-Young and refugee advocates for this public forum.”
