Emily Clark’s aduki independent press, based in Melbourne, publishes work by emerging and established authors and cover topics and issues that are often overlooked in mainstream media.
Emily expects her titles to provoke discussion and debate and be a source of learning and entertainment. aduki’s focus is non-fiction books, essays and magazines with particular interest in:
Emily started her business in 2006 with aduki magazine, a free food and lifestyle publication for vegetarians and vegans and she won a Home-Based Business Award with the fledgling business. After six print issues the magazine has just been re-launched as an online-only publication delivering new content from Australia and around the world every week.
In 2007 Emily joined the Small Press Underground Networking Community (SPUNC), set up to represent and promote collaboration within the Australian small and independent publishing sector.
Now in 2008 aduki has announced has announced that nominations are open for its inaugural awards to recognise excellence in the Australian vegan community.
The aim of the awards is to showcase the best animal-free products, places and businesses and to recognise that Australia offers vegans amazing choice and quality for people living a vegan lifestyle.
Emily says:
“The vegan community in Australia is vibrant and active. There are many amazing groups and individuals making contributions to make out lives better and we want to showcase some of the best Australia has to offer.
The cool thing about these awards is that they are the people’s choice. aduki won’t have any influence over the results, we are simply facilitating public opinion.
This is the first year we are running the awards and hope there is a lot of public support so that we can continue to do this for many years to come as the vegan community continues to grow.”
Nominations are open to the public as of today and close on 29 February 2008. Voting in all categories will commence in March via the aduki website. Voting closes midnight on 25 April 2008 with winners to be announced on 1 May 2008. The winners will receive a trophy of recognition from aduki independent press and be profiled on ‘aduki online’.
