‘Going Local Convergence’ In Brisbane – Meet US Guru Judy Wicks

Learning about ‘Building Resilient, Sustainable Communities’ is the focus of this Relocalistion Convergence from May 23-25 in Brisbane, a lifestyle and business practice Philadelphia’s Judy Wicks has been endorsing for many years.

FYI In Australia relocalisation communities are clustered largely on Queensland’s northern coast.

The Ethos Foundation is hosting an Australian visit by Judy Wicks, co-founder of the Business Alliance for Local Living Economies (BALLE), now a nation-wide movement across the United States.

Starting with her famous White Dog Cafe in Philadelphia, Judy has been a pioneer of the relocalisation movement in the US. Her work has won many national and international awards, she has appeared on conference platforms around the world and featured in many books, magazine and newspaper articles.

What Is Relocalisation?

“Relocalisation is a strategy to build societies based on the local production of food, energy and goods, and the local development of currency, governance and culture. The main goals of Relocalisation are to increase community energy security, to strengthen local economies, and to dramatically improve environmental conditions and social equity.

The Relocalisation strategy developed in response to the environmental, social, political and economic impacts of global over-reliance on cheap energy. Our dependence on cheap non-renewable fossil fuel energy has produced climate change, the erosion of community, wars for oil-rich land and the instability of the global economic system.”

This gathering will share learnings from diverse local projects that focus on how resilient communities, vibrant local economies, and environmental sustainability can all come together.
