“Great minds discuss ideas” – Eleanor Roosevelt
“Good ideas are common – what’s uncommon are people who’ll work hard enough to bring them about” – Ashleigh Brilliant
“We think good ideas to death, when we should be acting them to life” – Brian G. Jett
These quotes got me thinking and, intrigued, I followed the Mixed Dozen path, wondering if this is the way we once were?
Mixed Dozen values the capacity of people and their resourcefulness in exploring and solving problems. It believes people always find a way.
Coffee is fleeting. Mixed Dozen believes a short black is too short, that a coffee conversation helps you make a decision, but a meal conversation helps you learn where a person is coming from and what they believe and why they believe it.
Mixed Dozen is more interested in time, than in quality time. It wants food to be prepared and eaten by the same hands. Meals are nourishing of both mind and body. They are communal, shared and require washing up afterwards.
Mixed Dozen brings together neighbourhoods and local communities. It provides a space for them to play, create, converse and give through a shared meal.
It is a social enterprise, interested in supporting local communities to invest and then re-invest in themselves – an interaction that helps foster creative local activity, strengthens relationships, builds local capacity and fosters sustainability.
Mixed Dozen is a contribution to the growing movement and interest in connecting locally. Connecting with people. Connecting with food. Connecting with our environment. Connecting with philanthropic tendencies. And, doing this in a way that is purposeful, fun and nourishing.
“We are committed to building physical networks of people in the places that we live, work and co-habit. Networks that are based on interests or expertise. We both embrace and challenge the concept of ‘local’. We want people to develop a new sense of ‘old’ or ‘unseen’ places..
We want Mixed Dozen guests to run into each other at the local market or apartment lift. We want them to stop in the corridors at work for a conversation. We want them to walk together in a nearby park. We want them to invite each other over for another meal..
Everything about Mixed Dozen must be playful – from the process of inviting, to the introduction of guests and the making and sharing of a meal, through to the expectation of dessert.”
Mixed Dozen can happen anywhere, at anytime. You have to register to find out when a Mixed Dozen is coming to a venue near you.
Mixed Dozen is a space for people to gather and share and give. It is delivered by working with friends and partners, new and old: to locate venues, to identify hosts, to invite guest, to provide food, to inject playfulness and to re-invest in local communities.
And…Expect Dessert!!
Mixed Dozen loves dessert…a dessert that is a surprise, one that nourishes and puts a smile on your face. The beginning of something new?
Molto interessante…I’ve put my name on the list!
