2012 is the United Nations International Year of Co-operatives (IYC). The National Conference at Port Macquarie, 24-26 October, will see Australian co-operatives come together under the banner of an International Year to celebrate their successes and raise awareness about the role of co-operatives and mutuals in the Australian economy.

There will be more than 50 leading national and international co-operative thinkers for two days of debate and discussion examining:
International guest speaker Mikel Lezamiz will explain why ‘Mighty Mondragon’ – an alternative to capitalism, Spain’s seventh largest corporation and the world’s largest worker co-op – is defying the Eurozone crisis.
• The Trade Showcase – Offering exciting marketing and business networking opportunities.
• The Co-op Business Clinics – A dedicated 9-module co-op workshop program for boards, managers and members.
• Australia’s first Co-operative Youth Summit –Inspiring the leaders of tomorrow.
• IYC 2012 Commemorative Year Book Launch –”Building a Better Australia. Peter Russell-Clarke will be signing copies of the official Year Book.
Australian celebrity chef Maggie Beer will speak on food security and local food production at a great night of food, wine, music and a chance to mingle with Australia’s co-operative leaders.
