We see Sydney’s 2008 Good Food & Wine Show recycled more than 80% of waste produced and attracted more than 50,000 visitors over the June 20-22 weekend – almost double the recorded numbers for 2007. UK chef Gordon Ramsay was the star attraction.
The Sydney Convention and Exhibition Centre along with Diversified Exhibitions Australia, the event organiser, provided info to the 300 exhibitors on the eco-friendly initiatives of the event, and visitors were encouraged to recycle through the Centre’s three-bin recycling and waste stations throughout the exhibition halls.
The Centre has an ongoing campaign to improve the environmentally-friendly nature of exhibitions, whilst drastically reducing its carbon footprint.
A team of Centre staff, in green ‘Working Towards Zero Waste’ shirts, monitored the waste processing throughout the weekend.

“This year’s Good Food and Wine Show was not only the busiest, it was also the best in terms of waste management…We were successful in diverting a huge quantity of the event’s waste from landfill, despite a record-breaking spike in visitor numbers, so we were very pleased with the result. ”
Sounds like a pretty good effort.
