Fact: every day Australians go hungry. By supporting SecondBite, we can give vulnerable men, women and children the gift of fresh food. This Christmas Masterchef’s Matt Preston is working as a SecondBite Ambassador to provide food to families who don’t have enough to eat.
Matt says many Australians face a totally different Christmas, where they have to choose between paying their rent and electricity or putting food on the table for their children. Some families will only be able to afford to buy instant noodles for their Christmas meal.
This year SecondBite will collect enough surplus fresh food to provide over 4 million healthy nutritious meals but they are reaching only a tiny proportion of the 1.2 million Australians who will continue to struggle to find enough food to eat.
A $30 donation will enable SecondBite to source and redistribute enough quality fresh food to provide 75 nutritious meals.
A monthly gift of $25 can provide fresh food for a parent and their child every day for a whole year!
SecondBite redistributes surplus fresh food to community food programs around Australia.
Food is donated by farmers, wholesalers, markets, supermarkets, caterers and events.
This high quality surplus food is redistributed to community food programs that support people who are homeless, women and families in crisis, youth at risk, indigenous communities, asylum seekers and new arrivals.
Secondbite has an established research team that investigates food insecurity in Australia and it is developing programs that provide long term preventative solutions to food insecurity in Australia.
