A group of 17 Chinese visitors are to fly to Sydney and tour the Hunter and Wollongong by car this week, because of a NSW self-drive radio promotion in Southern China’s Guangdong Province. Apparently the Shantou Radio Station program Travel Around the Globe has millions of listeners and this was the first time an overseas self-drive package had been reviewed by celebrity presenter Ms Chen Yun.
The first group booked on the self-drive tour from this campaign arrived in Sydney in early May, during Chinese Golden Week – a week long holiday when people typically go travelling and sightseeing. Golden Week was initiated in 1999 as an extension of the Spring Festival on May 1 and China’s National Day on October 1, creating two seven-day holidays that are now a part of Chinese life.
The radio promotion was broadcast daily during March and April and the audience was able to book or enquire about the tour through the radio station. Ms Chen Yun will also be joining the group for the trip.
