Lyn Beinat, CEO of ecoMaster, has contacted us to say several PWF readers have been in touch about the Green Loans Home Sustainability Assessor training and she asks us to update the info for greater clarity.
Lyn says:
“As the Green Loans scheme has been evolving, some things have changed.
One of them is the remuneration – which is now between $150 and $250. However, the Green Renovation Packs that the Home Sustainability Assessors were intended to install (low flow shower roses and CFLs) are no longer part of the scheme – so the assessment is now more focused on the behaviour change and identification of areas to retrofit.
There will be a pilot launched soon (early April) and the ‘pilot areas’ will be announced shortly.
We are very positive about this scheme. There are 8 million homes in Australia, very few have been designed or built with sustainability in mind. We have developed the technology to deal with many of the issues that householders experience and have produced fabulous results – savings of 80% on energy bills with homes producing zero emissions. Interestingly, the homes we have retrofitted are MUCH more comfortable too! Retrofitting is not easy to do, but it’s not impossible either.
The faster this scheme gets up and running the better chance the next generation has. Bring it on!

Be very informed before you pay for this program. The idea is excellent but the reality is independant assessors (those not contracted and therefore only paid a fraction of the awarded rate) are only getting a few jobs per week. It has potential but dont go in with rose coloured glasses and expect to make thousands per week. It will only be disppointing.
