October 19, 2005Perth has won the prestigious 2005 UK Guardian Observer and Guardian Unlimited Travel Award category of ‘Favourite Overseas City. Sydney came second ahead of Hong Kong, Krakow, Tallinn (Estonia) and Cape Town.
The Travel Awards reflect the views of Guardian Observer readers, who are seen to be independent and adventurous travellers.
Readers rated their holiday experiences in terms of quality of service and experience. The Guardian Observer prides itself on reflecting the tastes and preferences of discerning travellers today.
Perth, not ranked in the top ten in 2004, scored a winning total of 96.8%, closely followed by the previous winner, Sydney on 96.7%.
Perth is uncommercial, unspoilt and unhurried – characteristics that visitors are increasingly searching for at a time when work/life balance and stress are major issues.
