October 19, 2005A group of Warragul women in Victoria’s Gippsland region have held several workshops with mosaic artist Maery Gabriel to produce 20 mosaic tiles as part of the ‘Women who Mean Business’ project. The tiles, depicting the local ecology, will be laid at selected points along the Linear Park Trail for everyone to enjoy.
Work will now begin on 20 complementary bollards to be placed alongside the tiles. These have already been given an undercoat and are now ready to be painted by local artists and community members. Everyone is welcome to take part!
The Noojee Development League want to paint a ‘Noojee’ bollard and a mother and daughter team will do another. The group says you don’t have to be artistic – working with top artists will be sure to inspire! It is planned to have the first tiles and bollards installed in Burke Street, Warragul by 20 November – Commonwealth Games Warm Up Day.
A huge mosaic compass project will also be launched on this day. A basic design has been drawn up for the structure in Burke Street Park. Two Koori women will design and paint the centrepiece and all that is needed now is a group of fun loving, creative, imaginative and friendly women to co-operate in showing what it means to live in Gippsland, past and present.
Funding comes from the State Community Support Fund and the Baw Baw Shire.

This is a great project- but when will people recognise cyclists as being equal in this park? I’m tired of walkers spread out across the complete track- dogs off leashes- and the general raised eye brow when you pass on a bike.
Painted posts or signs educating people that the area is a shared path for all… including cyclists?
I know what is more important.
