Indigenous Community Volunteers (ICV) and mining company Rio Tinto have joined forces to promote community enterprise projects and skills transfer in areas in which Rio Tinto operates throughout Australia. They have partnered successfully in such projects previously, in areas near Rio Tinto operations throughout Australia.
ICV links skilled volunteers with Indigenous communities that have asked for assistance with sustainable projects and Rio Tinto is offering $300,000 over a 3 year period to achieve this goal. It is a national NGO supported by the Commonwealth Government, State Government, the corporate sector and private donations. Its role is to build capacity through skills transfer projects designed by Indigenous communities. Due to increased demand for its services, ICV has recently expanded its operations, with new offices in Alice Springs, Perth and Brisbane.
