Many local businesses in Nillumbik Shire – in Melbourne’s lovely, leafy fringe – have been badly affected by the fires. The Council is putting in place a number of measures to assist local business directly and indirectly affected.
The effect of the bushfires on businesses within Nillumbik is already proving to be considerable. As well as the tragic loss of life and destruction of assets, many businesses are indirectly impacted through loss of utilities, suppliers, staff or other key stakeholders. Many businesses have or will experience a reduction in performance; others have been impacted by their fire-related relief efforts. The long term implications on the local economy could be considerable.
Business Bushfire Response is a Nillumbik Shire program to help address the long term impact of the fires on the local economy. It aims to do this by providing regular information about government assistance to businesses affected by the fires, and through a local program that matches businesses needing support with businesses able to offer the relevant support.
Many businesses in the local community have already expressed a desire to support affected businesses avoid long term damage. Now local businesses who want to help are invited to register their interest and the support they can offer. Assistance could take a number of forms, including:
• consulting – eg, mentoring, human resource management, accounting and bookkeeping, marketing, graphics, database, finance, business process, records recovery or reconstruction
• space – eg, office, warehouse, studio, meeting, factory, exhibition, presentation
• staff – temporary relief, training
• office facility – phone, secretarial, back office
• business network support – connecting with locals with shared experiences
Offers may be to provide services for free, discounted, cost or deferred payment. Offers will be matched according to needs.
