Get Up! Action for Australia – putting communities first.

The ‘GetUp Team at www.getup.org.au has run a four week campaign targetting the Howard Government’s Voluntary Student Unionism (VSU)Bill, a law that will drastically cut services on university campuses around the country.

Almost 8500 Australians came to the site and signed the letter of support. The Bill faces ‘unbending opposition from Nationals senator Barnaby Joyce’ and Education Minister Brendan Nelson admits he may have to postpone the changes as legislation may not be passed in time for the 2006 academic year.

The GetUp Team is emailing people with the message that joint action can ensure ‘voices are heard and help force compromises on important issues’.
