In February 2006 one of Denmark’s popular youth radio stations will run an Australian travel promotion, giving one lucky listener the chance to win a working holiday to Australia.
Tourism Australia will work with the Danish Embassy, Tourism Western Australia (TWA), South Australian Tourism Commission (SATC) and Thai Airways
to profile the Working Holiday Maker Visa and the range of experiences Australia-wide shown on Tourism Australia’s youth microsite, www.job.australia.com.
Thai Airways has provided flights for the winner and TWA and SATC have organised work at the Dolphin Discovery Centre in Bunbury and on the Ghan.
One of the station’s presenters and a producer will come here to ‘experience Australia’ in November on the Visiting Journalist Program. The stories they collect will be retold on air in February to encourage listeners to enter the competition. Pictures from their visit will be posted on the radio’s website.
BACKGROUND
The Working Holiday Visa website www.work.australia.com is targeted specifically at 18-30 year old school leavers and university students who are potential working holiday makers.
The site features the voices two travellers, Matt and Lucy, who take visitors to the site through their own Australian experiences and insights into working in Australia. The site also features information on applying for a Working Holiday Visas, tips for working in Australia, a youth and backpacker deals section, and itinerary planning advice.
Due to the success of the English edition of the site and in conjunction with the recent changes to the Working Holiday Maker scheme that allows application for a second Working Holiday Maker visa by any person who has undertaken seasonal harvest in regional Australia for a minimum of three months, the website is now being translated into French, German and Italian.
