About Pigs Will Fly
Pigs Will Fly is a blog and info-exchange for businessowners and community people who care about the world we will leave to our grandchildren.
Keeping up with the latest information on so many fronts these days is an epic but necessary task if we are to achieve the ‘sustainability quadruple bottom line’, caring about and balancing:
- socio-cultural matters
- economic issues
- our natural environment
- policymaking and good governance
Who’s it for?
- grassroots community groups
- business owners
- local government officers
- indigenous community leaders
- policymakers
- those interested in bi-partisanship
Background
Pigs Will Fly has its roots in the Australian ‘can do’ spirit. It comes naturally to help a friend or colleague and to learn from the success of others.
Generally speaking, at the grassroots level, businessowners, grassroots groups and government people share the same goal. We strive for employment opportunities and profitable businesses while attempting to balance this with the social, environmental and cultural concerns that make life worth living.
Both public and private sectors want to see sustainable development in their communities.
Founder & Editor
Gail Plowman is an ex Melbourne French teacher who, with her family, spent ten years living in Gippsland, building and running a tourism business. Her three boys, now young men, all identify as ‘country kids’. She loved the community spirit, country living and the general grassroots enthusiasm and creativity.
After ten years’ involvement in country tourism promotional efforts Gail ended up teaching at La Trobe Uni, while doing research for a Master’s degree in Tourism Planning.
This meant working closely with Local Government and local communities trying to establish how, together, the public and private sectors could achieve more for the huge effort everyone puts in.
In 2004 a wide range of friends and colleagues, all believing in a ‘Can Do Community’ helped develop The Pigs Will Fly Info-Exchange. Yes, there are a lot of challenges out there but Pigs WILL Fly!
After a few years break this citizen journalist is taking up the quill once more! Pigs Will Fly ‘TAKE 1′(2004-2014) has been archived and Pigs Will Fly ‘Take 2’ is set to continue.
