A study to give small business back Saturday afternoons?
“The Australian Government is committed to reducing the regulatory burden on hard working small business operators,” says Fran Bailey Federal Minister for Small Business & Tourism.
She wants Australia’s 1.2 million small businesses to have their say about small business’ tax compliance costs with a view to reducing that cost. The Board is due to report in the second half of 2006.
“Over the past eighteen months, the Taxation Board has been listening to small businesses at many forums” says Chairman Dick Warburton. “What small businesses want is more information. For example, they want more information on how to meet their tax obligations, but they want that information delivered as simply as possible. So it will be good news for small business if we can help satisfy that thirst for information and make it easier for small business.”
The Board of Taxation, which provides advice on improving the design of taxation laws and their operation, is welcoming submissions from small business.
“I would encourage small businesses to have their say on the study and submit their ideas to help improve the system. I would particularly encourage accountants, who often have the pulse of small businesses combined with a thorough knowledge of the tax system, to take the time to put forward their views,” says Fran Bailey.
