The emotional rollercoaster will no doubt go on for some time with the funeral of Larry Knight today. Some amazing aspects of the rescue are now coming out:
- There was a lone rescue attempt by a miner who got to within 3 metres of Todd and Brant more than a week ago – in the area where Larry Knight died – but it was deemed too dangerous to continue;
- Todd and Brant’s courage drove the marathon rescue effort “nobody dared to flag or complain” said the paramedics;
- After the men had walked free – on the Sunrise brekky show – I watched the head of the Tasmanian Minerals Council actually praise the behaviour of the media – with the exception of a few ‘outriders asking ‘outrageous’ questions!
After fourteen days today will be both incredibly sad and ecstatically jubilant.
