Recharge scheme a model for Victoria & other states/territories?
In Melbourne’s outer northeast the Nillumbik Shire’s business sector has cooperated in a program that provides a recharge point for people who use electric scooters/wheelchairs. Many traders have also made their businesses more physically accessible to people who use a mobility device or who may be pushing a pram.
All participating businesses have a ‘Recharge’ sticker on their shop windows and there are now 15 recharge points available in and around Eltham, Hurstbridge and Diamond Creek. Where a new power point was needed CRZ Electrical Services did the installation free of charge.
A state government MetroAccess grant to Nillumbik allowed the Council to employ a worker to run the pilot program. The Recharge scheme is now being expanded statewide and the Council, in partnership with Mobility Aids Australia, will be providing information for residents.
Is your region doing anything interesting on the ‘accessibility front’?
