What do nonprofits want from technology?

The use of information and communications technology ICT – computers, software, the internet, telephones etc – by nonprofit organisations is SO important.

BUT the lack of comprehensive and accurate information is making planning for service delivery and policy development very difficult.

To address this issue, the Not-For-Profit Network, the National Nonprofit ICT Coalition (NNIC) consultation consortium and Digital Business Insights, are conducting a survey:

The use of, & plans for, Technology in nonprofit organisations.

It is mostly a tick box survey and should only take 15-30 minutes to complete, depending on the size of the organisation and how many answers you complete.

Surveys should be completed by 9 September 2006. The closing date for survey returns is 11 September 2006.

Who should complete this survey?
All not-for-profit organisations in Australia:

• community services;
• arts;
• sport & recreation;
• environment groups;
• professional & trade associations;
• unions;
• advocacy groups etc.

It is preferred that the most senior person in the organisation complete the survey wherever possible.

Why do the survey?
The right choice of ICT in any organisation can help:

• increase productivity;
• improve service delivery.

The wrong choice can actually reduce:

• productivity, or
• worsen service delivery.

So it’s important to know what works best in our industry, what doesn’t and why.

Every completed survey is important. So even if some questions do not apply to your organisation, please fill in what you can. Your response will help us to help you and you may even learn some things you didn’t know before about your own organisation.

Your response to this survey will help create a clear picture of how ICT helps non-profit organisations and about what works best. Provided you give us your email address, in return for your answers we will let you know:

• how you and others rated different hardware and software used in the nonprofit sector;
• what uses of ICT other nonprofits think are valuable, what works and what doesn’t;
• what strategies the sector thinks should be put in place to better support the use of ICT;
