Business Sustainability Roundtable: Copenhagen/Tony Abbott

Derek Winter of the Business Sustainability Roundtable has contacted us about a post Copenhagen debrief over lunch in Melbourne on Wednesday 24 February. He says:

“Michelle Grattan summed up the Coalition’s policy response to climate change as a ‘loose political bathrobe’ rather than a ‘serious contribution’ to reducing Australia’s carbon emissions, but Tony Abbott’s succinct messaging about his (and the Government’s) offering has injected more questions and, perhaps, uncertainty into the national conversation than we might have thought possible prior to the COP15 in Copenhagen. How did the COP15 open the way for this and, importantly, how will the COP16 in Mexico be able to draw back the focus and deliver some certainty for investors and entrepreneurs?

These questions and others specific to your business interests will be answered at the Business Sustainability Roundtable’s (BSRT) luncheon by a specially selected panel of experts who attended the COP15.

• The Lord Mayor, Robert Doyle, will speak of the parallel Lord Mayor’s conference on sustainability and the ideas he has brought back the City of Melbourne that will drive local commerce.
• Dr Brett Parris lends his perspective as former Chief Economist for World Vision Australia, the capacity in which he attended COP15, as well as his current research at Monash University in the Department of Econometrics and Business Statistics.
• Dominique La Fontaine develops commercial climate change strategies for business, and it is from this view that she will be reporting her ideas from Copenhagen.
• Amy Kean offers succinct and useful take outs for business, from her view as a marketing executive of sustainable loyalty programs and an attendee of several COP events.
• Giulia Baggio, former ABC journalist and now media advisor, climate change at the ACTU will tease out ideas making sure that the hard questions are asked from the perspective of local business.

This is a unique event among the many Copenhagen ‘debriefs’ available to you; it is specifically focused on the forward issues of business, it is an opportunity to be linked with other progressive business leaders and it will be a more accessible corporate panel discussion than those held in large forums.
