Australian business leaders came together last Friday to launch the GenerationOne campaign which aims to address the problems faced by Indigenous communities.
This campaign, hopefully, will have the power to go beyond politics. Perhaps it will be able to ‘lead’ politicians into backing worthwhile projects??
The GenerationOne campaign is being led by billionaire businessman Andrew ‘Twiggy’ Forrest of Fortescue Metals. Big names such as Kerry Stokes, Jamie Packer, the Lowy family and Lindsay Fox, as well as Westpac and NAB, which are pledging some 50,000 places for Indigenous Australian in their workforces are all in support of the campaign.
George Patterson Y&R has stepped in to produce the multi-media campaign, with the agency also providing a 12-month scholarship to provide a start for young indigenous Australians in the marketing communications industry.
I’ve just signed up…

25,000 Indigenous people have already graduated from universities (almost all since 1990, two-thirdswomen and one in every nine adults) and there could be 50,000 by 2020 – this will surely help to ‘close the gap’ ? Let’s watch this initative closely and give it a go. Let’s not presume that it is all doom and gloom 🙂
I support this grass roots initiative 100%, and where better to start. Fantastic. You can follow the progress via Facebook too. Andrew Forest is my pick for Australian of the Year!
