Melissa of Businessmums.com nominated for ‘Most Valuable Person’ competition
Some months ago Leah Squires – BYOkids.com.au – another Aussie ‘work at home Mum’ told me how she had found Melissa Khalinksy’s Business Mums Network a fantastic help as she got her fledgling site off the ground. I have just joined as a Silver Member and actually met Melissa at the MCEI Event in Doncaster, Melbourne, as we listened to Naomi Simson’s amazing Red Balloon story (Bulletin 46).
Melissa’s Story
Melissa has two little boys, Nathaniel 4 and Zachariah 2. ‘Pre-kids’ Melissa worked in the web hosting industry. She had just changed jobs when her first pregnancy was confirmed and was ‘on probation’. 8 weeks later she lost her job.
Melissa was very keen to start and run her own business from home after Nathaniel was born and wanted to attend a seminar on doing just this. Out of courtesy she rang to say she would be attending with a tiny baby – they didn’t want her!
Then, a Business Adviser told Melissa she should plan to work from 9am – 5pm, 5 days a week! All of this was just NOT GOOD ENOUGH! Melissa knew exactly what she wanted to do – start up a network to support businesspeople with families working from home.
She asked her web developer husband to put a forum page for Business Mums on the net. He did this within the hour and Melissa’s Business Mums Network was away! This was nearly four years ago. Business Mums now has 600 members – it has grown at an amazing rate and is still the only professional network for parents in business in Australia.
Melissa would love to win this competition and there are just 2 weeks left to vote. You can support Melissa’s great effort to date by voting on the Work At Home Moms MVP voting page!
It’ll only take a minute – please vote for Melissa Khalinksy!

Well done Melissa ! You have my vote.I have been a work from home mom for 40 years and I am still working from home. Mother of 6 and grandmother of 7 its a great way to work. It takes being self disaplined, organised, self motivated and creative.
You have all of these qualities. You have my support. If I can be more help it would be my pleasure.
Kindest regards from Shirley Carton
