If there’s one ingredient common to the world of food, it’s flour. In an interesting take on exploring cultural diversity, Melbourne’s first ever International Flour Festival (March 24 at Federation Square), will celebrate the way flour is used in its many international cuisines.
Bread stalls from some of Victoria’s finest bakers, as well as stands serving their best interpretation of flour – from Japanese to Senegalese, Indian to Italian – will be up for the taste test at this festival.
There will also be cooking demonstrations and music from around the world on Fed Square’s main stage, local wine tasting and a tasting of beers from Victoria’s microbreweries on the day.
Melbourne’s Food and Wine Festival operates on a not-for-profit basis, aiming to promote quality produce and talent, as well as the Melbourne/Victorian lifestyle. Beginning in 1993, with a simple program of 12 events, the 2007 Festival will host over 140 events between 16-30 March all around the state.
