Some useful tips on how to effectively lobby government

Campaigners on all sorts of issues lobby Members of Parliament – but how effectively is it being done?

A new survey by national public affairs firm, Parker & Partners, has released a report into what influences our politicians. 60 interviews were conducted with state and federal politicians across the spectrum.

The full report is available at http://www.p-p.com.au/PP_PoliticalSurvey5.pdf. Politicians reported that there was nothing more frustrating than listening to a negative story with no solution being suggested.

-69% found the offering of a solution by an organisation or an individual to be highly positive;

-36% found data to be highly effective influencing tools;

-61% said non-government organisations or community-based organisations are influential on their decision-making.
