Audax Australia is a national long distance cycling club of French origin. The Indigo Classic @ Beechworth, on Sunday 27 November 2005, in Victoria’s picturesque northeast will be Indigo Shire’s inaugural Audax one-day cycling event. The event will offer cyclists a choice of 50, 100, 150 or 200km rides – the challenge being to choose a distance and complete the ride within a designated time limit calculated on maintaining an overall speed of 15kmh.
The premier Audax Australia event is the late January ‘Alpine Classic’, starting in Bright, which attracts over 1000 keen cyclists – an important annual event for Victoria’s Alpine Shire.
Indigo Shire is inviting local businesses to help promote a friendly welcoming atmosphere, as it is important in the early years of an event to develop a reputation of being more than just a great scenic ride! Local organisers are looking for volunteers and for donations of products and services to help run the event.
