A new bus service, running three days a week between Mallacoota in far east Gippsland, and Genoa, on the Princes Highway, will commence today, 15 December. Mallacoota has no public transport so this is a big win for residents of the local area. There will be a six month trial period to help to assess the demand and determine patronage numbers so the State Government is urging people to use the service.
The timetable has been designed to connect with V/Line Coach Services that run both ways along the Princess Highway through Genoa so residents and travellers will gain a public transport link both to the Highway that is the most direct route to New South Wales and with the V/Line train services at Bairnsdale.
The pilot service will mean people reliant on public transport will be able to access services and facilities in surrounding towns and a local bus should be a boost for tourism to the area.
