It seems in a ‘can do community’ pigs will fly in circles…..True or False?
So what’s all this about?
In 2002-3, when the Pigs Will Fly project was a few vague ideas, it went under the name ‘Can Do Community’ – to the extent that the business name and domain name were both registered.
Why did we drop the name? At the time there was the possibility of confusion between our project and a FACs Can Do Community Award program. It seems this program has now ended and the department is now (FACSIA) the Dept for Family, Community Services & Indigenous Affairs .
Loving & hating ‘Pigs Will Fly’
People either love or hate the name and marketing people say sure it’s memorable but it doesn’t SAY what the project IS! True, and you do get tired of having to explain things time after time.
WHAT IS OUR GOAL? WHO DO WE WANT TO REACH?
We want to reach grassroots people and establish a network right around OZ, sharing community and business info – what works, what doesn’t, inspirational stories, ‘how to’ info etc so people can balance the ‘triple bottom line’ ie go for business success and jobs…sure… BUT not at the expense of our natural and cultural heritage, meaning we take care we pass on the good things about life today to our kids.
QUESTION: Will a more straightforward name be more effective in getting the idea ‘out there’ and building the network?
We’d love some feedback on completing the circle & changing the name!
